TROLLEY SPOTTING NEWS

“Van My Trollie Af” is a WhatsApp group for those who have the welfare of shopping trolleys in Bothasig and surrounding areas, at heart… also for all other things shopping trolleys related, tips and observations…

Steady member growth has also meant increased participation from the community albeit from spotting and relaying the location to various shops or trolley management reacting on tip offs. Detect, Deter and Deny the use of, is the basic motto we’ve come up with.

The next picture is of a missed opportunity as we still need to come up with a “how to go about guideline” on the handling of a shopping trolley from a neighbouring area’s shop such as in this instance a Pick n Pay trolley going down Link Road, Bothasig past Food Lovers Market, Bothasig:

The next clip is a bit of a mixed surprise to those who are looking after the safe keeping of wheelie bins in the neighbourhood and those who are on the shopping trolley spotting hunt. Neither of the WhatsApp groups felt it worth chasing after person since he both had a wrecked SPAR trolley (red & grey wheels) and a wheelie bin with no wheelies and lid:

On the 31st of December 2024, we managed to get 2 contacts from FLM Bothasig onto the WhatsApp group and about 20mins later they had to sprang into action to recover the FLM trolley in the clip below from the staff of Checkers Bothasig:

Things were a bit quiet on the 1st of January 2025 but the next day two Checkers Trolley’s were spotted on the 2nd of January 2025 at almost the same time and were recovered soon afterwards by the trolley management company Horison Trolley Management:

The Checkers Hyper Trolley is not from our neighbourhood, but the trolley management staff will return it to N1 City, Goodwood from where it was pinched. The more common Checkers trolley confiscated will go back into service at Checkers Bothasig should there be a trolley missing at the end of the day else it will go back in the pool for redistribution by Horison Trolley Management.

A general CCTV Streetview from Leonardo Village’s Neighbourhood Watch can be seen of the Checkers Hyper Trolley before being confiscated:

The following trolley were seen at 01:30am on the 3rd of January 2025 walking along Link Road, Bothasig which is on the outskirts of Leonardo Village. The trolley was not pursued as it’s not from a local shop i.e. no Pick n Pay close by. Meaning that its one that slipped through the open end of the net since we don’t have a wider solution yet on how to handle trolleys not from our area.

The next trolley was spotted at 08:15am on the 3rd of January 2025 and was also not pursued as it’s not from a local shop i.e. no Pick n Pay close by. Meaning that its one that slipped through the open end of the net since we don’t have a wider solution yet on how to handle trolleys not from our area.

More stolen or abandoned shopping trolley images were received as spotters drive past them and send in the info to us, so that we can see if a responder can recover the trolley etc.
