SHOPPING TROLLEY LIBRARY
“Van My Trollie Af” is a WhatsApp group for those who have the welfare of shopping trolleys in Bothasig and surrounding areas, at heart… also for all other things shopping trolleys related, tips and observations…
As a WhatsApp group, we recognize the fact that many destitute and homeless people are using shopping trolleys and “wheelie bins” as a means to collect recyclable materials in return for money in order to make a living. As a collective we have however found that all neighbourhoods in our and neighbouring communities, have suffered the scourge of criminals using the very same methods as a disguise to walk the area, access properties and cart stolen goods away. Through this WhatsApp group we aim to educate ourselves and inform the residents, neighbourhood watches and Police forums about the issues related to trolleys and present relevant information that we gather.
“Van My Trollie Af” strive and aim for a day in the not-so-distant future, when we can practice a zero-tolerance approach to the shopping trolley problem and have results that’ll demonstrate that this approach does result in a significant decrease in certain types of crime, especially on or before the two refuse collection days per week.
The rest of this Blog will attempt to build a basic photo library of the various shopping trollies found to be in use by the various businesses in the area.
Regular updates to the trolley library will be performed with the hope that it can be used as an easy photo reference to get a quick idea of whose business’ trolley might be seen out of place as it moves through the village or nearby streets etc. It will also help to get an idea of the percentage of trolleys that are seen, that might actually be coming from neighbouring areas.
Focus can then be shifted or widened according to the visual info one gain in the short and long term. Counter measures can be deployed to ensure the general welfare of the shopping trolley and their negative impact on the area when used in a rogue manner.
